Every ECW Ever - ECW 20 (10/24/2006)

WWE ECW 20 - 10/24/2006

Welcome back everyone! Another episode on my extended quarantine weekend. This is the 20th episode of WWE ECW, and normally I would do a PPV Roundup as well. I’m going to wait until after the Halloween edition to include all of October, and plus we will get Cyber Sunday included. I’m not sure if anyone actually wins their vote! For now, we turn to ECW 20, where RVD and Big Show will settle things in a ladder match.

RVD cuts a great promo about being the man of ECW. It’s just too bad you had to get that DUI, Rob. Real shame. Heyman comes out to remind us that Big Show was undefeated in ECW for 18 episodes before losing to RVD. 18 in a row is solid. That said, back to tonight. They determine to win his title back, RVD must get the contract in a ladder match!

As they settle things, the RIOT guards jump RVD. RVD is choked a bit by a police baton, so we count it!

Weapons: Police Baton (1)

Match #1: CM Punk vs. Matt Striker

Oh boy. Here we go. Haven’t seen Striker in singles action in a while. This should be decent because, honestly, I can’t remember actually watching a Matt Striker match.

Striker works Punk’s arm which is pretty clever. He abuses it against the post, then put Punk in a nice arm bar. Punk comes back and begins to hit his warm up moves (knee to the face in the corner, running bulldog, etc.), and just as Punk is about to put it away, Mike Knox comes out to break things up. Punk still wins, just by DQ.

Winner: CM Punk
Match Rating: Decent
Weapons Used: None

Match #2: Hardcore Holly vs. Test

I was reading some Reddit posts about Test, and people hate that he looks like this. I guess I tend to agree. You can tell he’s juiced to the bit. However, I was excited as soon as they announced this matchup. This has been building up for a while, and Holly is on quite the hot streak, starting with his acquisition, and then really taking off once he had that Extreme Rules match with Rob Van Dam.

This one is pretty standard; it definitely would have benefited from being extreme rules given this is “Hardcore” Holly after all. However, for whatever these two are worth technically in the ring, they brought it. Not a bad effort all in all. Test just looks so slow. He looks strong, but not quite healthy at all. It really is sad. Hardcore Holly on the other hand is definitely juiced, just not to that degree. They go to commercial when Holly suplexes Test outside the ring just like RVD did to him onto the floor below. See the thumbnail. Jesus!

This is actually a long match, and I respect that they gave these guys the time to put on a proper matchup. Test even tries to get creative and go top rope, but ends up landing right on his private parts. Ouch! I feel like there’s no chance Test can win. Flying Leg Drop by Holly. 2 count! This is quite a match, but unfortunately it ends with a bit of controversy as Test had to use the tights to win. Sad ending, but great match!

Oh wait, Test isn’t done! He smacks a chair directly onto the scar Holly endured a few weeks ago. Brutal. Test truly is a despicable son of a bitch!

Winner: Test
Match Rating: Great
Weapons: Chair (1)

Sandman cuts a promo for his potential matchup with Umaga at Cyber Sunday. What a promo! Sandman kills it, and I know he does face Umaga eventually. Maybe it’s Cyber Sunday!

Match #3: Rob Van Dam vs. Big Show (Ladder Match)

Here we go. I expect this one to be brutal.

Ladders get involved early, but Big Show has no intentions of grabbing the contract any time soon. He throws RVD back first into one, then decides to make the climb. Big Show even tries knocking it down the ladder given his height. RVD comes in with a ladder of his own to do some damage. The two go back and forth exchanging some pretty nasty shots. Big Show’s skull is busted WIDE open. Looks nasty. He even acts like he’s getting a little woozy. So much respect for Big Show man, especially during this early ECW run.

Big Show begins to climb the ladder, but RVD climbs up, jumps over the ladder and onto Big Show, trying to hurricanrana him over the rope. It fails badly though, and this is a big botch. RVD goes flying and slams to the floor. Big Show tumbles after. Insane. RVD shakes it off, grabs the ladder, and wins his chance at the title!

Winner: Rob Van Dam
Match Rating: Solid, Brutal
Weapons: Ladder (2)

Another episode in the books. This was a quality episode! It had a good main event that got bloody, and that match between Test and Hardcore Holly was really impressive.

Match of the Night: Test vs. Hardcore Holly - Rest in Peace Test. Fun matchup, respect to these guys.
Wrestler of the Night: Test - Once again, rest in peace. He was just so much fun to watch in this weird iteration, his last hurrah of his WWE career.
Worst of the Night: Matt Striker. The descent to jobber begins.
