Last week, we got a great episode of 205 Live that was driven mostly by storyline. The wrestling was, well, as good as you'd expect. These are some of the best wrestlers in the WWE all in one convenient hour slot (and the occasional spot or two on RAW) and every match is, at the least, entertaining. However, it seems that this episode would resolve a lot more in the ring, rather than on the microphone. Let's see what happens.

The main event is announced as Akira Tozawa vs. Ariya Daivari, with the winner facing facing Neville for the Cruiserweight Championship at SummerSlam. Nice!

The Brian Kendrick def. Jack Gallagher (via DQ)

The match didn't really get going before Gallagher got himself disqualified. He proceeded to beat down Brian Kendrick with malicious intent. This was interesting, as this is not the first time we have seen a little bit of an aggressive side to Jack Gallagher. Jack is a gentleman, but he can turn it on and bring out a minor dark side. I like this addition to his character, and Jack is surely one of my favorites in the Cruiserweight division. I really hope that this match ends in a no holds barred match, or something of that sort. It would be a fitting end.

TJP and Rich Swann Play Video Games

Interesting angle here. TJP, a heel, is still friends with Rich Swann, a face. He also blatantly kicks Mustafa Ali out of the room where he and Swann were playing WWE 2K17. Not the best acting there. However, I have a lot of interest as to where this feud may go. How long can Rich Swann trust TJP until he realizes the guy he knew was either a farce all along, or simply no longer there, and a new, more douchey (is that a word) TJP is the result.

Tony Nese def. Gran Metalik

Nice to see Metalik get some action here on 205 Live. Metalik was the runner-up of the Cruiserweight Classic, losing to TJP in the finals. In what was a ferocious match, Metalik definitely proved himself to be one of the best Cruiserweights that they brought in for the show. It is this obvious ability shown by the CWC that has made many people confused over the lack of appearances Gran Metalik has made throughout the duration of 205 Live. Mostly, Metalik has been seen on WWE Main Event, a filler show for the beginning of live events and WWE Network fodder. I think, however, the answer is quite simple; Metalik can't speak English. Does speaking English mean he is not a good wrestler? No, of course not. However, it results in the jobs of the 205 Live writers to become incredibly more difficult as a result. How is Gran Metalik and, say, Brian Kendrick supposed to have a feud? Drew Gulak? He can only go as far as his mic skills, and that is, unfortunately, not far at the moment. I can't blame for WWE for bringing him along slowly, still allowing him to wrestle, but not enough to overexpose him nor completely forget. I think that, as time goes on, and Metalik can garner more of a grasp on the English language, that we will see him much more.

The flip in question
In terms of the match, it was excellent. Metalik and Nese traded off on some impressive moves, with the highlight coming from a perfectly choreographed move.  Nese slide outside the ring and at the same time, Metalik went for a backflip to the outside. Nese gets there just in time and catches him, and it all looks so smooth. Well done by these two. Tony Nese winning is understandable, as he has been featured the most on the show, and Metalik is still biding his time before coming into the scene of 205 Live with purpose. Tony Nese has improved greatly as a WWE guy. He was impressive in the tournament, but has really turned it up to a notch since 205 Live started, as has several other competitors.

Akira Tozawa def. Ariya Daivari (#1 Contender for Cruiserweight Title)

Another excellent match. The stipulation here was that the winner of this match will take on Neville at SummerSlam for the Cruiserweight Title. I was hoping there would be a triple threat match at SummerSlam instead, but I also don't mind Neville vs. Tozawa once again. Daivari is a guy who has definitely impressed me more and more as 205 Live has gone on. During the CWC, I can't say I was that big of a fan. I saw him as just the brother of Daivari from the mid-2000s, and I thought he was a bit bland in all aspects of wrestling. However, I definitely feel like he has progressed, and I've changed my tune quite a bit. I thought he would have added a nice dynamic to the SummerSlam match, but hey, what can you do.

Tozawa vs. Neville at SummerSlam should be great, and I'm definitely looking forward to this one. I would like Neville to retain, as he has been an unstoppable force the past few months, but a Tozawa win would be an awesome surprise. I'm cool with either outcome, really.

Conclusion

All in all, this was another excellent episode of 205 Live. This one progressed things more so in the ring than out, and I like that. We saw some nice character development, especially from Jack Gallagher, as well as some excellent wrestling. You can't ask for much more.

Thanks for reading, and make sure to check back next week for a review of the next episode.
